Infrastructure of Serbian Railways to invest RSD 1.9bn in current maintenance
The company Infrastructure of the Serbian Railways will invest RSD 1.9bn in current maintenance of the existing infrastructure in 2018, thereby creating conditions for a safer and more regular transport, the company's director, Miroljub Jeftic, said on January 5. As the press release says, he stated that the goal was to bring down the total length of low-speed sections to below 50 kilometers in 2018. An overhaul of 113 kilometers of the Pancevo-Orlovat-Novi Sad railway is in progress, so that regular traffic between Novi Sad and Zrenjanin, to be carried out by new Russian diesel trains purchased with the loan from the Russian Federation, might be established on September 1 – the press release says.

Net 9-mo FDI inflow into Serbia rises
The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Serbia rose to EUR 1.84bn or USD 2.2bn in the first nine months of 2017, from EUR 1.45bn in the prior-year period, official preliminary figures show. Investments from EU member states rose to EUR 1.38bn in the nine months ended September 30, 2017 from EUR 1.19bn, while Chinese investments grew to EUR 69.1m from EUR 56.5m according to data posted on the website of Serbia's central bank. The Netherlands was the largest source of FDI into Serbia, with a total of EUR 334m. The net inflow of FDI into Serbia rose to EUR 1.86bn in 2016, from EUR 1.80bn in the previous year.

Serbia expects EUR 1.2bn in foreign exchange inflow from tourism in 2018
The director of the Tourism Organization of Serbia (TOS), Marija Labovic, stated that the country expected around EUR 1.2bn in foreign exchange inflow from tourism in 2018. She told RTS that the capacities were 100% full during the New Year’s holidays, according to the data from local self-governments, and that “everyone has recorded a growth”. In general, both foreign and local tourists very gladly recognize Serbia as a tourist destination during the New Year’s holidays, being attracted by various open-air events and very good arrangements – Labovic pointed out.
